Documenting the .hyv File Format

Before I spend a lot of time writing code to read Hy-tek files, I thought it would make sense to try and document them first.  I’ve started with the .hyv file format which describes the events that comprise a swim meet.  I’ve documented the fields I’ve been able to figure out in a Google Docs spreadsheet.  If you’re interested in helping me flush this out, let me know and I’ll provide the ability to update the file.

You can see what I have so far here.

  1. Mike I have already parsed most of the meet events, entry and meet results files. I have most of the major fields identified. I would be more than happy to collaborate with you if you would like.

    • Troy – that is great news. I just sent you an invitation to a Google Doc where I had started documenting the fields in the .hyv file. I thought I would do the same for all of the files over time but if you have another suggestion, I am open to just about anything.

  2. Hi Mike,

I have an excel sheet indicating what each of the fields mean and where each of the records start if you like I can send it to you.

    • Sure. I’ll reply via e-mail. You can also join the SDIF Forum mailing list (see the front page of the web site). Several of us have been collaborating on a Google Docs spreadsheet to capture all of the fields in the .hyv file format. I think we have most of them identified at this point but would love to validate against your findings too.

  3. Unfortunately you can’t import an Excel spreadsheet I to Hy-tek. By design they make it hard as Hy-tek would like you to enter all of your data into MM or TM by hand. Bleh.

In order to import data into Hy-tek you need to format so Hy-tek thinks it is a native Hy-tek file. The challenge is Thais format has a checksum and the file format isn’t documented. If you join the SDIF Forum mailing list you will find past discussions in the archive which provide some pointers to accomplish what you want to do.
