WordPress Google Form v0.24 fixes UTF-8 bug

Recently a couple people have reported problems with international (or UTF-8) characters. The UTF-8 characters were not being passed correctly from the form on the WordPress site on to Google. I had planned to look into the problem this coming weekend but a wpGForm user (cablop.net) beat me to it and has provided the fix (thank you very much!).

I have incorporated the fix and tested it and was able to submit a couple Spanish words that have UTF-8 characters. The update should appear on your Dashboard shortly.

  1. Thank you very much! This plugin is great for our dogshool webpage! SUPER

  2. Recently, I tried to update the plugin [ from 0.23 to 0.24 version ] but to no avail. I faced an error upon updating it automatically through WordPress backend. The error which was shown is “Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error” Warning: require_once(wpgform-core.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in ../mydomain.com/wp-content/plugins/wpgform/index.php on line 28.

    Help me!

    Thanks.

    • That is an odd error – it is basically telling you that a required file doesn’t exist. I am not sure how that would happen through the upgrade process except some sort of glitch. Can you try deleting the plugin and re-installing it? If you delete it through the plugin interface and then add it again, it should retain any settings you’ve set up.

  3. Hi Mike!

Firstly, thanks for the quick response!
Ok, I did that prior to submit this comment, I mean, tried deleting the plugin but the error still showing i.e “the plugin could not be deleted because it triggered a fatal error”. Upon checking through my FTP or cpanel, the plugin folder consists only single file namely index.php. It’s quite confusing to me too as I’ve never come across such a problem before during any other plugins upgrading process.

BTW, your help is always welcome.

    Thanks again.

    • There is something wrong because you should have a collection of files within the /wp-content/plugins/wpgfrom directory. It should look like this:
      wpGForm Plugin directory contents
If yours doesn’t look like this, you may want to try manually installing it by downloading the zip file, unpacking it locally and then uploading the files via FTP.

  4. Hi Mike.

Thanks for your help on solving this matter. I did contact my webhost to solve the issue and it’s resolved. Take a look at this contact page that I build after sucessfully installed your latest version ( 0.24 ) plugin.Great!

    The link : http://madupakhaji.com/testingwp/wpgf

I discovered that the issue is somewhat revolving around chmod permission.

Again. thanks a lot . Hope to see more development on this nice plugin!

    Regards…
    Sam
